TURQUOISE CAFE

Turkish – Roscoe Village.

Flavor Scale (1-5): 3

I was on TikTok and saw someone eating a “Turkish Pizza” and it looked so good, I had to try it! I ordered Lahmacun (Turkish pizza) and Sultan’s Delight (Hunkar Begendi) – both dishes I’ve never had before.

Lahmacun (Turkish Pizza) – This is basically a flatbread with minced meat and vegetables on it. It came with cilantro and sliced tomatoes to put inside, as well as lemons to squeeze on top. I really enjoyed “dressing up” the flatbread and the flavor combination was really nice! It was a savory, fresh, and slightly tart which was very unique (in a good way)! I would definitely order this again!

Sultan’s Delight (Hunkar Begendi) – This is smoked mozzarella eggplant puree with braised lamb on top. It came with bread which you are supposed to eat the dish with. I actually really liked this! The taste might not appeal to everyone though. It’s similar to Baba Ghanoush which is also made from eggplant. So, if you like that, definitely give this a try! The bread was hard (might be more fresh at the restaurant) but it went nicely with the dish. The Lamb was SO TENDER and delicious.

Overall, the dishes I ordered had nice subtle flavors and I can see myself ordering from Turquoise Cafe again! I guess I’m a fan of Turkish food now!!
