MINGHIN CUISINE

Chinese – Streeterville.

Flavor Scale (1-5): 4.75

I personally consider this one of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicago. I’ve eaten here on several occasions and have yet to be disappointed. There are a couple locations in the city which is nice. The two locations I’ve been to (Streeterville and South Loop) have an upscale vibe and one of the things I really like is that you order using ipads. So, when you’re with a group, it’s easy for everyone to select what they want and it will be put under one order.

On this particular day, I went with some friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. We ordered a few things from their dimsum menu (highly recommend) as well as some of the main dishes. From the dimsum menu we got Siu Mai (Shumai) which I’ve ordered multiple times. They are much larger than the shumai I’ve previously eaten and PACKED with flavor. We also ordered one of my personal favorites – Short Rib with Pepper Sauce. These are so delicious and savory. The pepper sauce tastes more like black pepper but not sure if that’s due to a higher spice tolerance. Another great alternative would be the Short Rib with Honey Sauce which is sweet and savory!

The 3 main dishes we ordered were: General Tao’s Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. Their General Tao’s Chicken is top notch! It’s crispy and the sauce is coated nicely. This dish can be a hit or miss because it’s sometimes too bready or dry at some restaurants, but Minghin does it well! You also can’t go wrong with the Mongolian beef. My only critique would be that it has more onions in it than beef. Lastly, the BBQ Pork Fried Rice was also pretty good. It doesn’t have a BBQ flavor if that’s what you’re thinking. It honestly just tasted like regular pork fried rice to me.

Overall, if it wasn’t already obvious from my review loll, I would most definitely recommend this place. It would be great for birthdays, date nights, and casual dinner hangs! You’re pretty much guaranteed quality, flavor-packed food!
