It’s no secret that the cost of food has been on the rise. We are all searching for cheaper alternatives and over using the phrase – “not in this economy”. That’s why I decided to make a list of Chicago meals I recently had that were delicious, filling, and UNDER $20 (prices included).
SALT Burger + Fries
Wicker Park.

SALT is a cute burger spot that serves delicious smash burgers and crispy golden fries. Their SALT sauce adds so much flavor to the burger and the meat was so juicy and tender. This place is basically in-N-out in Chicago (but better) as they serve similar items such as animal style fries. A single cheeseburger and fries cost me $12.83.
bANH MI SPOT
Logan Square.

This small banh mi spot was delicious! The sandwich was large and filling, the bread was warm and soft, and the slightly sweet sauce with the spicy jalapeños was the perfect combo. I highly recommend the lemongrass chicken! The sandwich was $10.65.
FALAFEL & GRILL
Wicker Park.

Falafel & Grill has some tasty shawarma and fries! This meal was so good and it was actually too much for me to finish in one sitting, so I made it into two meals. The fries were honestly my favorite – they were so crispy, soft, and well seasoned. This meal was just shy of $20 at $19.99.
FONTANO’s SUBS
Little Italy.

If you are looking for a great sub or hot sandwich in the city, look no further! This is a very local joint in Little Italy and you can tell when you walk in. It’s definitely a nice and wholesome experience. The sandwich was packed with flavor and dripping with juice. I got a 6 inch sub for $10.61 (includes tips/taxes).
CARNICERIA MARIBEL
Pilsen.

So this is actually one of the best taco spots in the city. There are days where the line wraps around the block but I got lucky and didn’t have to wait. This taco spot is at the back of a liquor store and serves some really great tacos. I loved the shrimp and carne asada tacos as well as the carne asada fries! The fries were $13.99 and the tacos vary a bit but they are below $5.
cHICAGO BAGEL AUTHORITY
Lakeview & Lincoln Park.

The Chicago Bagel Authority offers more sandwiches than you would ever need. Whatever you’re craving, I’m sure you will find something that you like. The bagels were great and super filling. They are all $11 or less.
