Southern Restaurant – Lincoln Square.
Flavor Scale (1-5): 3.7
I’ve been wanting to explore more Southern restaurants in the city, and Luella’s has been on my list for a while. This charming little spot in Lincoln Square did not disappoint. The setup is casual: you order at the counter, grab your utensils, cups, and drinks, find a table, and they bring your food to you.
We went for brunch, and although the menu isn’t extensive, everything looked so delicious that I had a hard time deciding. I ended up ordering the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was flavorful with perfectly crispy skin, pairing wonderfully with the waffles and maple syrup. I only wished I had ordered something like fruit or greens to balance out all the sweet and fried goodness.
My friends ordered the Shrimp and Grits, and the buttermilk biscuits with jam and a side of eggs. They both really enjoyed their dishes. I’m eager to return and try their dinner menu. The mac and cheese, skillet cornbread, and candied yams are calling my name. Who wants to join me?
